Air spares 802, 427, 812.
Leaving 315, 352, 377, 313, 360, 320, 308, 346, 317 on the pan.
301 was billy no mates in 11Sqn area.

Lincolnshire Aviation now have an engine runnable Mosquito, if you want to spend 2 days there in Sept one day the Lancaster will be doing taxi runs(no point trying to book for this year!) And the next day the Mosquito will be run.

The trade show is on. But not for the public.

Farnborough hasn’t been the same since the 70s before H&S stopped displays over the crowd. I went in 74 and the Lightning stood on its tail above the crowd and went to afterburners...

I’ve been since and it has never been the same.

I used to work at BAe Warton in the early 80’s in the Flight Test Dept / Tornado on the Foxhunter radar. The office was adjacent to the R/W, and 2 or 3 times a day an IDS or ADV would depart. Non event. When our chase Lightning (polished silver) took off, much to the chagrin of the managers the whole bloody office would unseat and gather at the windows. One particular pilot (Russ Pengelly / RIP) would never let us down and would keep it at 30’ to the end of the runway before ripping it up 90 degs... always in max reheat. Spectacular.

The display pilot at Coningsby in the Typhoons is a chap called Jim Peterson. What he can't do with the plane is not worth mentioning. I see him 'practice' twice a week (looks like he's more on a jolly than anything else) and people come from all over the country to watch him doing the display practice. They worship the ground he walks on, sort of like a God 😀😀😀😀

I worked at Boscombe Down in the late eighties and the Test Pilot School had a Lightning in their fleet because it did not have computer controls and the pilot's could feel every input.
All the pilot's loved flying it. Zoom climbs, vertical to 50,000ft were a favourite way to depart and fantastic to watch.
