Seamus:
Restored a K1 once, it was bought as being fully done and working. Leaked a little bit of oil from the drive gear. Turnrd out that the chain had been through the cases and it was repaired with epoxy resin. Lovely.
Lucky at the time as my bro in law worked with an aircraft approved welder. Did a great job
