Engine rebuild coming on fine, after Head rebuild and rebore by Trigger. Just one problem I didn't fit the right hand crank seal before bolting the cases back together. I now not sure which way it fits. Logic says looking at it , the metal side out. Is this correct ?

You will be lucky to get it in as there is a rib around the seal that locates in a slot in the crankcases.

Back to night school Ross. Metal side facing in...it should have a lip on it which needs to locate so cases need to be apart to fit it

That said I have managed to change a seal before without splitting the engine. At least you don't have to get an old one out. What I did was coat the outside of the seal with grease and oil the inner then knock it in with a suitable size socket ( just smaller than the seals outer). Mine just popped in and has been fine since. Be very careful you don't accidently scratch the crank or your seal will be toast in no time. Good luck.

Agreed, splitting the cases is the best way to go.

Luckily I've got time on my side and not in a rush Just that the manuals are very vague and not fully informative Not like the forum Your right Julie do it once and do it right Better to find mistakes at this stage Least i can leave the Barrels and Head on Ross

Engine split, Seal fitted, and all back together. Thanks for your advice Julie and Roy It had to be done properly. Didn't dare risk it, then have to pull the motor out thanks again Ross

It was really quick. Luckly all still fresh in my mind around a couple hours give or take Hardest part was lifting the engine and turning it over and round A bit of a lump ?? Ross
