Unless you want to fit an expensive reg rec as well stay away from the lion type as the regulators on the fours are too crude

I fitted a Motorbatt AGM and it didn't last long, 2 Years?-despite the Honda being kept on an optimate all year around when not rolling. I gave it no further thought and just replaced with a SLA as they are cheap as chips. Ive not ordered one for a while but i hear or read that they (sellers) are not allowed to ship acid like they used to (in bottles)

I've been using these, Varta AGM on cars and bikes. Resilient, tolerant of low use, recharging etc and none have stopped yet after about six years for oldest.

This is 750 size which I use, not sure if 400 is smaller, also from the above mentioned supplier, prompt any competitive.

Don’t mention batteries lol.😂😂 I’ve had a Yuasa in my BMW on an Optimate for 3 years when it was new it’s died,one in my F1 wouldn’t recover after leaving ignition on,4 year old Yuasa from my Harley died so did my caravan leisure battery,and bu**er me 2 dry cell batteries in my mobility scooter have just died.Expensive time indeed,I use Tanya as they offer good fast service

As Bryanj mentioned the regulator/rectifier combination on these early bikes is pretty crude so I would stick with either a traditional lead/acid or possibly an AGM. Gel, and particularly lithium batteries need a very specific and well controlled charging regime.

Rather than leaving on so called smart chargers for long periods of time you would be better off removing them putting them on charge for 24hrs then check periodically when they get down to 12.1v put them back on charge for 24hrs.
My 6v yuasa bog standard lead acid is well over 10 years old and the one on the 750 is now over 5 years old and when I bought the bikes was told both times I would more than likely need a new one.

As above, I charge them slowly especially if they've been drained below optimum.
I've an old (30years) Gunson trickle charger that'll get most batteries back up if the cells are OK. It's only 0.8amp which you can leave on for a day or so to massage it back to full charge. It's just a plug type, no guage, nothing but a pair of leads and a 6/12volt switch to cope with all battery types
One consideration if you are storing in very low temps (freezing) a battery with very low charge level will by at risk of freezing the acid, but much more resistant at full charge level. That can definitely kill individual cells and cause internal damage.
