Welding looks reasonable when you consider the metal and how oily it was. Try putting the plug in WITH A NEW SOFT WASHER fill the inside with parrafin and see if it leaks, clean it first of course.

I agree with trigger about the shells just make sure you know the exact position they come from as they can not be identified if you dont, as i believe Trigger said earlier
