One rule that I am aware of though, is that the number of "modern" bikes cannot exceed the number of classics insured on the same policy.

Thats me stuffed then.  I just have the one 'Classic'

I've been with CN since 1992! It's not through blind faith either but every year at renewal time they cannot be beaten although I do have to call a few other companies first in order to go back to CN in order to get them to drop their renewal premium. I thought I had a better deal lined up last year with another company but they couldn't offer the roadside recovery or the helmet and clothing cover that CN could as part of their price.
I have one modern and several classics under their rider policy.
I have never had a problem with CN, when the 250RS seized on the M40 I was recovered with the hour. When i was knocked off my VFR in 1999 they paid up and I had a replacement bike by the afternoon.
No doubt this year I'll go through the same rigmarole at renewal time, this is the only thing that bugs me, why don't insurance companies give their cheapest price at renewal instead of having to haggle!

Its a very good point Dave.   I've just renewed the car insurance and last year I went with Saga for both our cars (the wife and I) when I talked to them on the phone after their renewal price was 18% higher than last years price, they admitted a fair percentage of the increase was because I no longer qualified for their 'introductory' discount as an existing customer.  That TV ad is spot on, many companies do penalise you for being an existing client.

Hi Dave....check out this YouTube 'interrogation' of the 3 main Irish Insurance Companies by Irish MP's................I have no doubt that the English/ Scottish Insurance Industry isn't much different in terms of the % of Fraudulent Claims they experience.

When you consider how the UK Insurance Companies INSIST (and record for later and use it as a legal tool if necessary when claims are made) that Customers ALWAYS provide accurate and truthful information when obtaining Quotes and accepting Insurance cover, it beggars belief how they can get away with their claims that massive Fraud is hiking up their premiums - as the Irish Companies have.

So if I am economical with the Truth I can be punished.....but if the Insurers are economical with the truth - they won't be punished ! One rule for tham....and another rule for us !

Alan, what can I say after having watched the video you posted!   Unbelievable levels of spin being placed on the number of fraudulent claims by the insurance companies in order to hike up the premium price.  They told the Parliamentary committee fraudulent claims are running at 20% but the actual number the insurance companies they themselves reported following investigation of these claims is actually 1%, Unbelievable!! The sad fact is they are all using this excuse to hike up premiums every year and there is nothing we as customers can do about it other then continually shop around. 
Great video and thanks for posting, a real eye-opener I recommend everyone on the forum views it, we are all in the same boat after all

Just as a footnote, I've now got the renewal premium for my Aprilia Tuono.   Without going into the specifics, the renewal from Hastings is circa £100 more than last years price!   So diving onto the Meerkats website, I've found equivalent cover with Bennetts for £70 LESS than last years quote, so more than £170 less than Hastings wanted off me this year.   Incidentally I ended up insuring the Thruxton with Bennetts too, although not on a multi bike basis.  The CB550 remains with Carole Nash until it needs renewing in May, I'll report back then. Lol

Just had my renewal from Peter James 2 modern and 3 classics.£415 up £30 from last year.I get unlimited miles travel in EU and decent breakdown cover,I don’t get a  no claims discount
