Check your main battery ground, it looks like you have the same problem as I had with my 74 550.

In your pic, see below. It looks like the green earth wire has overheated and melted. This happened in multiple places in my loom. Its caused by a poor battery ground connection, so a lot of current is using the only other path it can, the small green earth wire.

The second pic below is my loom, this is what to look out for:

The motad is off and available, I’ve docs referring to it being fitted by MTC (Reading) in 1992. It needs cleaning which I intend to get onto but the chrome is good. Sounded fine and very little loose stuff inside it. I just preferred symmetry hence I bought the 4-2 for it.

That looks like a 750 tank to me.
Wasn't the tap on the 500T on the left and the tank had a slight indent for your knees and looks a bit more bulbous

750 is the closest match so far, next time I’m fiddling with it I’ll pull the tank and photo the underside. The bottom seam is concealed - it doesn’t have a flange showing, it’s flush all the way along the sides if that’s a clue.

Who could not be interested in that colour!!
I think the question is this:
I traded an old classic car for this bike, so I could free up space and still have room for a project. When the bike arrived I instantly changed my mind from full restoration to fix, ride and enjoy as is, warts and all, because of the seemingly genuine patina. I wrote off the idea of sourcing a 4-4 system as a new one was unaffordable and decided to go for good used parts even if not OEM, eg I’ve already put used chrome rear shocks on. The wiring is a mess and needs doing piecemeal. I’ve been over the engine with petrol and a toothbrush and it’s greatly improved (whatever happened to the old Gunk formula!? The new one is crap!).
Does anyone see anything else that suggests this bike is a bitsa/mongrel or do you think it’s better served being restored as a genuine UK bike?

That frame number ties up with other 73 reg K1 UK models, unless you go to Honda UK and pay about £30 its dificult to give an exact date as Honda were building K1 models for the UK  and at the same time K2 models for elswhere plus just starting the 550 K0 for the US.

Personally i would put the proper tank on it, UK colours would be Gold, Brown or Black, painting tank and panels as and when and correct all the "wrong" parts as you go and have both time and cash.

Firstly give it a full service and mot, even though you dont have to have one, gives a good idea of what is worn then start on the rest. For example rear indicator brackets are wrong, no rear grab handle, fork gaiters look odd but resolution not best so cant be sure, front mudguard wrong(thats the dearest bit!)
