Question that's probably been asked 1000's of times before. Will a 550 top end fit on 500 crankcases??

Yes and no, the early 500 had a smaller hole in the crankcase so the 550 liners dont fit, but you can bore 500 cylinders to take up to 550 +0.5 pistons

Thanks Bryanj, Are the heads the same and interchangeable? Does the 550 have bigger valves??

The only differences on 550 are
Barrels/pistons
Gearbox
Clutch
Crankcase and clutch cover
Sprocket cover
