I struggled a bit with this also.

I thought I had it right, but it doesn’t look quite like yours Julie.

It springs a bit, but there is no click, hard, soft or otherwise.

I'm of the mind that the 'click' or lack of it, has little to no bearing on the function. The main thing is that when you put the foot peg in the up position, it should stay up until you knock it back down and not flop down of its own accord. I will have another look at mine tomorrow and see if I can get any better pictures. .

Sean I can see that you have a double spring on there. I think I need to scour the garage floor.
