Have two 500s. One very low mileage, the other I have a couple of sets of forks for. All clunk a bit when you hoist on centre stand.
Had the forks apart on the high mileage bike recently and also compared with the spare set. Of the four fork legs I found that the damping was uneven on two of them. Used the best two and seems better. The dampers are sealed and not made to service. Anyone had one apart, presumably there is nylon ring or the like inside that could be replaced or maybe the internal bore is worn/distorted?

How does the 500 forks ride compared to your 550? I ask because the general export 500k2 seems to use a later (than the rod down the middle type) and could perhaps change internals (if possible - spent £200 having stanchians re-chromed so don't want to change whole forks) so that cartridges could be inserted to upgrade the ride to a more modern standard (which I'm looking into doing on my 750k2)
Current Bikes:-
Honda CB750K2 (1975)
Honda CB500K2 (12/1972)
Honda CR750 Replica (1972)
Honda CB350K0 (1969)
Kawasaki ZZR1100D3 (1995)
Kawasaki ZZR250 (1990) Project (Going on eBay ASAP)
