Re-chrome luggage rack

I have bought a CB750 K4 rear luggage rack (off ebay) which is rusty in parts and will require re-chroming
No experience on re-chroming, so any advice on the subject/recommended re-chromer would be appreciated

It's easy enough Alan.

As long as the metal is in good condition, take it to your local chromer, pay the money and wait!

Not in your neck of the woods so can't recommend anyone I'm afraid...

Hi Alan I took my stuff to be rechromed to R&S Electroplating in Oldham, they were fast and did a great job, http://www.rschrome.co.uk/index.html
I contacted them via email, and sent them a list with photos of the stuff that I wanted re chroming and they sent me a price.
But they are not miracle workers, how good a finish you get depends on what condition the part is.

There is a Chromer near me  in Hull which the M/C classic mags swear by but I found that the parts I stripped myself and polished came out great but the ones I left them to do were not so good.

BTW here is the 'Ashimoto' tip about checking if you have removed all of the nickel. You rub over with 'Coppering solution' used by old guys for marking out steel in the olden days. Anywhere there is still traces of  nickel will not be flash coppered. The copper is dead easy to remove because you need a cyanide electrolyte to copper plate properly onto steel (or some modern chemical complex).

With a large item like a rack though it may be best for them to deplate in their tank.  Be warned though - Plalting is not cheap and good platers are hard to find and when you do, they usually take the time they quote you  muliplied by Pi to get it done.

to get good chroming done I belive most of the cost is in polishing the piece before plating it which is nasty and labour intensive work, not a job where going with the cheapest quote pays, I prefer to go with the well used look.
