Lawrence of Arabia and the crash helmet

(1/1)

Athame57:
While researching Lawrence of Arabia I came upon this, interesting reading! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-32622465

Laverda Dave:
Very interesting reading. I remember the opposition back in the 70's to wearing crash helmets and I think this was when MAG was born?

T E Lawrence had a very interesting life, when he left the army he joined the RAF. He was sent to RAF No.1 Depot (known later as RAF Uxbridge) for basic training as a raw recruit. When he joined the RAF he used the pseudonym of John Hume-Ross to avoid being recognised by the establishment.  Whilst undergoing basic training at Uxbridge he wrote a book titled ‘The Mint’ based on his experiences, it is full of expletives and portrays a very poor picture of a basic airman’s life during training.
I mention the above during the RAF Battle of Britain Bunker tour I give as a volunteer.
