I've never had a new bike or a new car for that matter. I've had plenty of new vans and an Escort estate but they weren't mine.
I've paid the deposit on a Royal Enfield Interceptor, a brant new one with sod all on the clock and having a personalised plate. I've got to wait three bloody weeks for those muppets at M&P to PDI it. We'll worth the wait though.

I'm still keeping the 400four but I've sold the Kawasaki GPZ500S.

Interesting read about your choice of motorcycle Mike - a local dealership Bob MInion who has been a Honda Dealer for many decades has now become a Royal Enfield (RE) & Royal Alloy dealership ditching Honda.
Whenever I have a hospital appointment at the old DRI in Derby I kill time hanging my nose over the R.E.s they look incredible value for money with all the modern features. I saw a selection of Royal Enfields at Stafford Show earlier this year and the only negative thing I observed was the clocks on one model looked to have a slight condensation issue on the inside of the clock faces - not a biggie & fixable.
It was a sobering thought when I realised I could have bought a new RE for what I have spent on my 400/4 - I know that not the way to look at things but wow you get so much for the price - even the 350 seems well reviewed in most road tests.
If I was just 10 years younger I would follow you & buy a RE. The link below scrolls throught the range my local dealership offer. If I came up on ERNIE I would forget about the 10 years younger condition.
Aside from company vehicles I have only ever bought one new vehicle a 1984 Astra 1600 SR (A77DVO) as I could not afford the Astra GTE. All my other many vehicles have been well used ones.
I look forwards to your reports when you take delivery you lucky fella I feel pangs of envy as I imagine your grin as you ride off on the RE.

Number Two Daughter recently bought a new car (well new to her) but she had to wait two weeks for the Garage to service & MOT it......their excuse was that it was a Bank Holiday 'hence the delay' !
Whatever happened to 'Customer Service' being King ?
Enjoy your new RE.......it will be interesting to hear what you think when you get your bum on the seat....rather than a Journo who's livelihood depends on writing 'positive' reviews.

I've been looking at the Royal Enfield 650 for quite a bit now and am very tempted, saw a 350 at the Raven Classic bike meet, the lady rider really raved about it as well.

I've spoken to a few owners at bike meets and they're well spoken of. The only thing I'd change, for the moment anyway, is the deplorable looking seat.

I’m due to test ride one soon - the first thing I noticed when I sat on one was how uncomfortable the seat was. Still they look great and price is just right too.

Looks good and they've done a good job in bringing original character (I saw, years ago in a friend's grandfather's shed) a Royal Enfield 700 twin, this one seems to have that shear presence of a significant sized twin captured really well. Bet your pleased with it
