Useless warranty
« on: November 27, 2022, 09:30:56 AM »
I recently purchased a Honda CB550 F1 which is only just over 47 years old and when I checked the oil, it needed a teaspoon full to bring it to the full mark - will it need new piston rings having burned so much oil in such a short space of time?  Furthermore, the battery on this machine had deteriorated so much that it had disappeared completely with only the vent tube, strap and cables still present.  Do I have a valid claim against Honda for supplying a machine unfit for purpose?

Ian

PS still enjoying this wonderful bike from James!

I think that is just the newness worn off and would raise the standard dealer comment of "they all do that sir"

Check the air in the tyres is still all there.
One day I'll have the time to restore it, not just talk and dream....

Checked the tyres for air and some of that had gone too!  It just strengthens my case! :)

In the small print of the Warranty for the UK sales the lifetime guarantee works on a reducing basis.
Year 1 - full cover.
Year 2 - parts only.
Year 3 - 50% parts only discount.
Year 4 - 25% discount on parts only.
Year 5 - 10% discount on parts only.
etc
.
.
.Year 50 - We will accept your old Honda if it is in full working order as deposit against a new similar Honda model.

I am sure if you return the complete machine to Japan, they will refund you the original purchase price.

You do have the receipt I take it?
CB750F2 - in pieces
CB900F Hornet - the daily transport

Oh yeah Bryan, they were my trousers - I've never been a cross dresser but I was really angry when I found the receipt was gone to pulp.

Enough, now before we get our collars felt by Steve!

Might be Phil,
I remember that case with an American President who denied having taken part in horizontal jogging - where there's a stain there's a claim!
