--- Quote from: Trigger on August 05, 2023, 05:47:52 AM ---I never mentioned Trademark :o It will be under Patent and copyright law . As i have already mentioned, Honda have lots of parts under patent laws in the UK including Bearings, decals and many, many other parts that don't have the word Honda on them ;)
I have a Business lawyer that specialises in patent and Copyrights for a reason. You can not even have crank cases made in the UK that are registered by Honda, When i was doing loads of crank case repairs i looked in to it.

I really think you're reaching here. A patent is to stop people making the same product, mine is clearly NOT a side panel badge. It's like the owner of a telephone claiming any toy telephones for kids to play with infringes his patent.
As for making crankcases, REALLY???? The cost would be enormous just to have the mould made, not to say how much they'd cost if you cast, then there's the engineering going into all the bearing surfaces etc. For the demand you'd never get your money back, far cheaper to just buy a second hand set or even a new set from Honda. Seriously, I've heard better stories on Jackanory.
Nigel, you forgot Nigel Mansell.
Trigger:
You seem to be living in denial Ken as, Steve has already advised you and i have. It will be a copyright on the design. Maybe you should send this thread to Honda legal department and see what they say. ::)
Yes Ken, you can just go to the spares department and find another set of Sandcast CB750 cases, to replace the ones your working on, that are passed the point of repair :o
Very easy to make another set, when you have the right contacts and we have a member on this forum who is a well known patternmaker that has just made some 1915 Gladiator cylinder block and head. after he has done his magic, it is just a bit of machine work with the correct tooling. ;)
McCabe-Thiele (Ted):
When I was in the car trade circa 1978/9 I worked for a Mitsubishi Dealer (marketed at the time as Colt) in Derby who also specialised in used BMW's. There was no BMW dealer in Derby at that time so selling late used BMW's was a good move as there was a large demand.
In the used car section of the showroom we had an illuminated genuine used BMW sign & our adverts in the local paper would show the BMW logo at the top of our cars for sale listings.
All went well until we had a stop & desist letter from BMW legal department giving us a time limit to remove the sign & stop using the BMW logo in our adverts. After legal advice the sign was removed and the used cars for sale no longer showed the logo - we could use the BMW letter for model descriptions only.

That's a very different situation Ted, using the manufacturers actual logo and sign. That implies that the dealer was a real BMW agent. Misleading the public.
Ken is not using the Honda logo. The embroidered badge copies a Honda side panel design, we know that it is not made by Honda. He could still get a letter from the Honda legals if they find it on a members only forum and they think that a few badges that they don't make themselves are worth the effort.
Bryanj:
The us site had to hide the manuals etc but we havent and when ibfirst started on forum whilst talking to Honda gb about a dating letter asked if it was ok to scan no longer printed manuals for members and was told verbaly it was ok
