Kick start spindle

Hi. The circlip on my kick-start spindle has come off and all the parts ended up in the oil pan. Can anyone tell me does the ratchet guide rest on the gearshift spindle to disengage the ratchet itself when under tension? I can't see any other place for it to sit! [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

You must always replace the circlip on the end of the shaft with a new one or it will just come off again  ;)
