This is listed as genuine part on DS for a 750 K1 looks like same part is listed for the K5.

They are modern day TEC points in that link Ted. 1971 points would have been ND, can't remember when they were changed to TEC but in the 70's sometime. Also, the manufacturers markings are stamped into the metal on the original points, not stamped in ink. All points are the same on all CB SOHC/4 models.

So are TEC points inferior to Nippon Denso in some way or is it a case of matching the back plate with the points Julie?

I don't think either are inferior, for many of us they've lasted 50+ years and still going strong. I don't think you have to match the back plate to the points either, I'm sure Hitachi manufactured the back plates at one time but the points were still ND or TEC 🤔🤔🤔. I am talking about OEM original parts here though, not  more recent parts that are marketed as 'genuine'.

So the DS points that he lists as Genuine Parts are neither ND or TEC - some new OEM supplier to Honda that is a tad misleading.

I thought someone on our site recently bought a complete back plate assembly that was TEC Julie?

Bryanj:
I bought one from DS mate

'I thought someone on our site recently bought a complete back plate assembly that was TEC Julie?'.

I didn't say they did or didn't Ted.
The original question was about points, not the back plates.

'Genuine' means genuine Honda, it doesn't mean 'original' as in that was the part fitted to the bike originally.
Yes, it is misleading but only if one assumes that genuine means original, which it doesnt.

Oddjob:
The original points on the 500K0 in 1971 were Hitachi, as were all the electrical components fitted to the plate at that time. These were 30203-300-005 which oddly are listed by CMS as the ones fitted to the 750K0, the later points 30203-300-154 which are still the part sold today were listed by Honda as being made by Toyo, which I presume means TEC is Toyo Electrical Components or Company.

TEC points are quite distinctive, they are marked TEC by an embedded stamp, have a sort of chequerboard design on the face of the base plate and the pivot point bushing is different to Daichi for instance, a lot more substantial.

Finding genuine TEC points is getting quite expensive and not exactly easy these days, AFAIK Hitachi haven't been available since the TEC points came out except for old stock, all the ones I ever fitted were made by TEC.

OEM means Original Equipment Manufacturer Ted, so what DS is claiming is that he's gone back to the manufacturer that made that part back in the 70s etc and had them remade. What it doesn't mean is that they are made to the same standards that Honda would have stipulated back then.

And yes someone recently bought a complete plate from DS that was stamped as TEC
