DIY Spot-Weld Dent Puller ... a real Frankenstein/Igor contraption.

Made this to pull lots of dents out of a CB500 Four tank.

NO this is not the 500 tank you kindly passed onto me Trigger ...I will let you have that one back.

Plan is ludicrous really. I have a beautiful Candy Jet (Jade) Green K0 paint set done by Menno a couple of years back pre-#@%$. A perfect NOS Candy Custom Gold tank with a pair of decent panels. However, I want to have a go at candy painting and the K0 came in Starlight Gold not Candy Custom Gold. So that's going to be this one is going to be. Well, that's the plan. Then all of my painting escapades will be over and I will hang up my guns for a bit.

Made from two scrap microwave transformers, timer module off eBay and one of my customers heavy duty solenoid switches (they use my automated test system in Hampshire & Lithuania and have sent me lots of samples over the years to set up the testing of their product range.)  I had to use two transformers in series connection in the end as one transformer didn't provide enough welly to geta decent weld.

I'm as good at holding an Electric Welder steady as I am a paint brush - I know my limitations.

I'm glad you know what you are doing Ash. If I tried making anything like that I'd take out the national grid!
I've seen Ed China use a similar dent pulling system on Wheeler Dealers. I think he used a bar passed through the welded 'tags' and this was connected to a hydraulic ram and the dent just pulled out!

Dave .. yes I have the wavy strip and slide hammer etc but I found that it's best to put a metal block on the tank and use it as a fulcrum with a bar or screwdriver passed through the eyelet of the welded tab. You also need to apply heat to the area. Bike tanks are probably thicker than car panels and the dents are on awkward curved areas. It does seem to take a lot of force in order to 'move' the metal.

As you will know in the car trade  there are professional dent removers who use specially made "Spoons" I think they are called to reach behind a dent, the heat up the paint area and remove some pretty big dents without damaging the paintwork. I caught my front wing on a steel post on one of my vehicles a few years ago - I was quoted over £600 to fix it. I called out a mobile dent remover who removed it. He quoted me £90 but only charged me £50 as he was not 100 % happy with the end result. I was !

Surprised no one has designed a U shaped spoon that works.

Ted ..on the 500 tank the filler hole is off centre so on the side of my tank with the dents in it, it would be difficult to get anything inside, even with fancy bends. It takes a lot more force than you would think to press a deep dent out. For anyone with dents in a painted tank the guy not far from Mathewsons Auctions (think he is in Middleton N. Yorks) is magic at getting dentds out without damaging the paint. JamesH put me onto him ..not cheap though about £150 to take a dent out but much cheaper than a repaint.
