Me too. Unless of course the imperfections are justified, which I’m doubtful.

I agree with the sentiments expressed here, let them try to do the remedial work and do it postage free.

I don’t disagree with what you all say,
I did phone them and the response was, “I think we have done well to get it as good as it is” . When I said I was worried that the sharp bits at the sides would cut through the cover I was told “no they won’t it will be fine” I insisted that I thought they would and got the reply “they won’t but if they do we are always here for you” .  Make of that what you will.

I have got to point in life where if people can’t do a good job then I can’t really be bothered with them.  I feel people that are capable of doing a good job normally do because that is their standards.   People that don’t,  well that is their standards and you are flogging a dead horse trying to get them to do better.

So as i said I  am going to have a go at it myself.  I am  no seat upholster but I am good at grinding, filling and getting things smooth so we will see.

Good or bad I will post the results but it might be a little while before it’s done.
Thanks for your  views , opinions and suggestions which have been really helpful in making me move forward on from this.

I suppose this is an example of cleaning up a part as well as you can to prepare it for recovering/replating/etc before sending it off to be done by someone else.
It sounds like Leighton's standards have dropped.  😩

Yes I really wish I had stripped the seat and had a good look at the sides and top of the base before sending it off.  It was the welding of the splits around the hinges that was the problem for me, I do have a welder but it is a stick MMA welder so not ideal for thin sheet steel.
I definitely agree that anyone else needing to do the same sort of thing should get the base really good themselves before sending it off to an upholsterer, even if they say they can sort the base out.

All the repairs to the base, welding etc look to be really good so I just don’t get how they have done so much good work but left the sides were it shows full of lumps and sharp bits.
