For those forum members that live in Austria / Northern Italy, Alps / Brenner /Dolomites etc what a stunning biking area you live in 😊😊😊😊. Just over 1000 miles done since Tuesday morning, loving every minute of it.

Are you enjoying the vino & pasta in Italy Julie?
I rode my Jota to the old Laverda factory in Bregenza at the foot of the Dolomites a few years ago and it was epic.

WOW Julie! I went up Grossglockner pass in the summer of 1972 with my parents and younger brother. We did it in a 1970s FIAT 124 Sedan without even breaking down!  :o
Only the higher peak had some snow but we could see a dot on it, a man skiing up there. We had trouble getting off the pass because dad had mislaid the tickets and the traditionally dressed girl checking tickets made us park in a layby until he found them, my mum had them all the time lol  ;D ..the rest of the trip an argument, all the while I was gagging for a fag and they knew it too!  ;)
I brake for animals!

Great scenery Julie, been up in about the dolomites but only by coach. Interesting and a touch precarious road trip in the bus, definately more suited to two wheels.

Done the gross a few times, but the best was when 4 cyclists riding Bromptons and dressed as beefeaters arrived at the motorcyclist ‘view point’. All credit to them. The SKY cycling team was present at the time and they treated them very well. It was really funny seeing a Beefeater on the massage table😅😅

It's amazing how many people cycle up these mountains, not using electric push bikes, just normal racing push bikes, bloody nutters 😂😂😂😂.

Driving home yesterday I came to the (river) ford near my house to find an adventure bike/dual sport thingy on its side in the water with rider and his mate trying to pick it up ( I think his mate was on a KTM Duke, not sure what his was..but similar). Didn't need my help. Was a medium bike, not a GS, and the riders had full leathers on.
The phrase 'all the gear, no idea' came to mind - which may have been unfair as they could be very experienced and just been unlucky, but as the guy said to me...it's very slippy in there. Yes...that will be because the road under the water is green and slimy!  Tyres on the KTM certainly weren't made for it. I imagine that with all the nice leathers/ boots on he wasn't going through with feet down. But even so, it would only take a tiny bit of throttle to get the back wheel spinning on the slime and chuck him off. I'm not sure I would ride through it and it's a road I avoid on motorbikes. Take care in fords...I didn't like to take a piccie of his misfortune!

My brother rode up the Grossglockner about 30 years ago on his Mercian iirc, he did say he stopped a couple of times and walked a couple of bendy sections, he said descending was much scarier.

Wow. What I found when riding in the Alps or the Pyenees , you stop and take a breathtaking picture that will be so special. Then you go round the next corner and see an equally stunning view and stop again, then again and again etc.....
One day I'll have the time to restore it, not just talk and dream....

Tim, you are making me feel breathless already!  :o The last hill climbing I did on pushbikes was about 10 years ago, the uphill parts of the Rotherhithe tunnel on my way to and from work!  ;D
