Switch gear painting

I tend to flood the letters, like so.



Then I let is dry and lightly go over it with a cloth with thinners on, if you've sprayed them this can cause the black to come off as well, but the ceramic didn't seem to be affected except for going slightly dull where the thinners touched, it does however buff back to the original shine. I'd just done these when I took the pic but missed the lights section off the top right switch, sometimes you need to reflood and do again.



The orange I used is Humbrol paint No Matt25 Luminous Orange Matt

I paid £5 for each switch half to be ceramic coated, probably cheaper than buying spray cans TBH. Not sure what they'd cost now, maybe £10 each? If you're thinking of having it done can I suggest you work on any areas of the switches which show damage, it's amazing what you can sand out and the paint covers it afterwards so it's not noticeable any longer.

Yes they look great. I've taken one to the powder coaters and asked him if he can keep it thin. I'll see how it turns out
 If it's to thick I'm not sure where I'd get it ceramic coated?

Place in Warrington called Camcoat does all mine. They are small enough to post but it’s better to take them there so you can discuss what sort of ceramic to use, what colour, matt, satin or gloss for instance. I can let you know the code used on them if you decide to go that way.

Maybe send them a pic of the switches and ask for a price beforehand, mine were dirt cheap about 2 years ago but I’m hearing reports there prices have gone up a lot.

I used to make Oven Bottoms, or as they known in the trade OBs, they are just turned over just before they finish baking to give that distinctive dark ring on the top. They are still barm cakes in the North West of England, baps eleswhere, or Stotties or even Tea cakes. Tea cakes have currant in, well in my world they do. I noticed as a HGV driver the name of a barm cakes changed as you travelled through the country, loads of different names for essentially the same product. I eaten loads of Sheldons OBs, not bad. I prefer their normal barm though, better texture IMO.

At least Phil, you do recognise who won, unlike Roo.

I got my left had switch gear case back from the powder coaters today and it looks like it's nice and thin so the lettering is clearly visible. I'll post some photos when I've painted them.
