Clutch Spacers/Shims?
« on: May 22, 2025, 04:14:43 PM »
Looking at the clutch on my K3 which is the one with the thicker Plate B steel plate.   There is a shim behind the circlip on the mainshaft but should there be a spacer between the clutch outer basket and the inner centre/collar?   Also for the life of me I can't get my head round how this particular clutch operates to separate the plates.   Does anyone have any sort of schematic operating diagram?

This link to CMSNL should help:
https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb550-four-cb550k3-1977-usa_model1015/partslist/E%20%2008.html

It works the other way from the 500s. The plates are clamped between parts 3 & 8. The rod (11) pushes on 9 which pushes 8 away thus releasing the clamping. Part 15 is a shim that you select to reduce looseness to less than 0.004" I think.
