There are some genuinely spot-on guys out there ...My 400F carbs story !
(1/1)
AshimotoK0:
Ages ago I stripped my 400F carbs down to get all of the parts plated, refurbed etc as the bike had been left with stale (4-star) fuel in the carbs. Then Roy on here sold me a rebuilt set done by Gerben in Holland (jetted for 350F but I changed jets etc for 400F ... carbs were 054A's). Then before I had chance to fit them my mate had big problems with his own 400F and suspected it was a carburation issue .. so he borrowed my carbs and the bike ran well but I obviously needed mine back sometime. Then he called me from on holiday abroad, as he had seen some guy on eBay local to me selling some really nice rebuilt carbs, so I bought them on his behalf and got chatting to the seller when I collected them. Turns out the guy (Paul) rebuilds 400 carbs and sells them on eBay.... I think he has done over 25 sets. He even fits the carbs he sells to his own 400 to balance and basically check their operation.
So fast forward to a month or so back and Paul called me to ask about a carburation issue that a bloke who bought his lovely CB77 was having.
We got chatting and I told him I still had my old carbs in bits... So FREE of charge he has built me a lovely set and refuses to take payment because I have given him some carbs bits he needed himself.... he even tested on his bike own (see video).
OK the Gerben ones are OK but these, which Paul has built me, are much nicer... just little things like the correct yellow passivated parts, no mullered screws (yea Gerbens had a few of those) and proper Honda Keihin brassware including brand new main & slow jets. Also Gerben silver painted the alloy mounting bar on my set, which is incorrect.
What a bloody cracking good bloke he is. He doesn't actually refurbish carbs to order ... he just buys sets, refurbs and tests them and sells on eBay.
He is so used to removing and refitting 400F carbs that he can take them off in less than 10 minutes and refit in about 12mins using the techniques he's adopted.
