Float Heights (again!)
« on: November 25, 2025, 12:38:47 PM »
Hi All, can someone supply the relevant photos from Nurse Julie’s float height set up please, they’re not appearing when I go to the relevant tips & tricks post!

Also - has anyone ever measured the fuel quantity of a correctly set up float height? I’m getting 40ml on each carb - does that sound about right for CB400F float height setting?

Many thanks - Bruce

I found these two links handy for setting the 21 mm float height, its quite a way down on the Vintage Bike builder, likewise it links you to the second site that wil show the 400 float type.

I bought an inexpensive poor quality float gauge, I ened up using rubber bands to hold the setting in place. Mine was about £6 the one below looks a tad better

I use a gauge like this to set float heights myself.  ;)

Use. A Vernier caliper with depth gauge if nothing else.

Thanks Nurse Julie - exactly what I was lookin for that makes more sense to me with your description!

Also thanks to all other comments - I have a float height guage, it was just the description of what angle to have the carbs at for setting the “close” position!

Cheers - Bruce

They were probably 500 or 550 carbs that I was fettling Bryan but I just took the photos as an example of how to set the floats.
