Long Shot
« on: January 08, 2026, 12:20:13 AM »
Erm........I should probably have posted this in the  "desperately seeking" section, but here goes....
I want to  put '69 type side panels on a '71 K1 based bike.
I've already got the side panels but apparently it requires the fitting of a '69 type oil tank also.
And therin lies the problem  - there don't seem to be any used ones to be had.
I did find one on ebay  - for £600 !
And apparently that got sold.
The apparent rarity suggests maybe a durability issue with the early oil tanks  ?
Well TBH, I really don't fancy paying out £600 or anything near.
Could I pick up a damaged/split tank and repair it  ?
Or maybe just substitute something else  ?

Not durability just different shape, you MAY be able to adapt a later tank

Thanks Bryan  !
Thinking about it,  all the early oil tanks have probably been bought up by the owners of sandcast engined bikes, just to be kept hung on their garage wall.
Looks like I'll just have to wait until I pick up a damaged one, and repair it.
I'm pretty good at finding rare stuff, it just takes persistence
