1979 Honda XR80
« on: January 15, 2026, 08:50:57 AM »
Hi
Back in my youth i had a 1979 Honda XR 80. In the past 10 years or so, my uncle sold it to somebody who lived in Scotland, as they wanted it to sit in their office i believe. The bike was sold from Kent. I'm trying to track it down, just so i can see it more than anything.

Does any of the above ring any bells for anybody? Would be grateful if this could be shared wider in the hopes of finding it

Was the bike ever road registered and if so, do you know the registration number to see if it still exists?  There's a very active motocross club here in Orkney and still start 'em young! - I'll ask around - they travelled all over Scotland (and beyond) but it's a long shot.  If it was a dealer who wanted it for display, many of them have ceased trading I'm afraid.

Thank you.

Not registered as far as i'm aware. It was with me mid 90s and left Kent in 2010s maybe, possibly earlier. The guy who bought it had one as a kid apparently, and wanted it for display in his office. To my knowledge it didn't run very well when it was sold. I didn't see it for many years before it went so these details may have changed, but it had a Yamaha petrol atnk (re-sprayed red and Hpnda decals added, Honda with a wing) The exhaust had been sprayed grey, it had no rear mudguard, the front number panel was black with a green 1 on it, the forks were ceased, it had no kick start (fell off in a field and we never found it) and the clucth and brake levers didn't match - i remember the clutch was a silver metal lever, and the front brake was a smaller black plastic

With that level of detail you have provided, perhaps some geek could photoshop what it looked like back then from the many standard pics on the web and you could put the pics on antisocial media in Scotland - might be worth a punt?  Of course, if someone wanted it as a display in an office, they might have had it restored to its former glory before anyone clapped eyes on it.  Unfortunately haystacks and needles spring to mind.
Best of luck,
Ian

If you search for ' xr80 in someone's office' in the Google ai tool (Gemini) it throws up some interesting reading - not necessarily the answers being sought, but not a bad read anyway.
