I`ve had my CB750 for about 3 months, bought it as a running repair.

Sounds like an electrical problem. Check the Plug leads are not damp/loose etc.

Had the same problem once and it turnedout to be blocked jets.

Hi,
Had a similar problem with my '77 550F2. The bike would start and idle ok but would not pull much above 40-45 mph. If the innards of the points stator plate are similar (which I think they are) it might be worth looking at the auto-advance mechanism - see of the springs are ok and the mechanism is not sticking. I cleaned mine and the problem went away.
