Honda CB750F1 Main stand removal.

(1/2) > >>

Greyboy:

Hi All,

I am removing the main stand and side stand to get them powder coated.

The side stand is off, no nut on the back but i have found one to fit.

I am not sure how the main stand is removed. I plan on putting a paddock stand under the swinging arm then ......

Loosening the two pinch bolts.
Removing the split pins
Tapping the tube out along with removing the spring.

Does this sound like the correct way to do it?

Thanks for any advice offered.

Mike.

Bryanj:
Safest to remove spring first

Grewth:
I usually make myself a sort of hook with a big handle to grab the spring and remove it.
Much safer than prying with a screwdriver.
Is your stand still rotating on the through shaft ?
All of my 750's have been seized in with rust and the shaft has been turning in the frame.

Spitfire:
The stand on my K1 had seized on the shaft and wore away  the clamps on the frame, I had some blocks made and fitted them to te frame as the clamps were too far gone.
You could try and insert pennies (or similar) into the spring coils when the bike is on the stand and the spring is open and then remove the stand.

Cheers

Dennis

Grewth:
I'll be welding a 6mm nut to my stand to accommodate a grease nipple.
And also I'll weld a plate on the end of the shaft for an extra locating bolt, so it can't possibly start to rotate
