Honda CB750F1 Main stand removal.
Greyboy:
All,
Thanks very much for the replies.
I will remove the spring first. It is looking rusty and dirty but will probably clean up ok. I'm not sure if the shaft is rotating in the frame but I will clean it up and grease it well on re-assembly.
I couldn't get the paddock stand in place as the exhaust silencer is in the way. I removed the two nuts and bolts holding it to the frame. One of the clamp bolts came out and the other is somehow an anti theft shear bolt with nothing to get a spanner or socket on. I thought I would loosen it by turning the threaded end with mole grips only to find my four sets of various mole grips have disappeared! >:(
I then used my Dremel type Black & Decker multi tool to grind the head off the shear bolt. All was going well, then there was a loud pop from the tool and the garage lights went out. The garage supply breaker in the house had tripped and the tool is now no more. I will buy another one and complete the job at the weekend.
There is lots more to do on the bike so I will, no doubt, be after more adviice in the future.
Kind regards,
Mike.
Greyboy:
Dear All,
Thanks for your help and suggestions. The stands have now been coated and are now back in place.
I fitted a new side stand spring but kept the main stand one and wire brushed and painted it.
I didn't bother removing the springs first, just removed them as the stands came off. Same with replacing, I used the stands to lever the springs into place.
The 750 F1 has a design fault in that the main stand tube can only be removed when not only the exhaust silencer but also the headers have to be removed as the tube hits them. :(
That did give me the opportunity to clean up and polish the whole system as parts of it are difficult to reach when in place.
