Honda CB750F1 Main stand removal.
« on: March 03, 2026, 12:48:46 PM »

Hi All,

I am removing the main stand and side stand to get them powder coated.

The side stand is off, no nut on the back but i have found one to fit.

I am not sure how the main stand is removed. I plan on putting a paddock stand under the swinging arm then ......

Loosening the two pinch bolts.
Removing the split pins
Tapping the tube out along with removing the spring.

Does this sound like the correct way to do it?

Thanks for any advice offered.

Mike.

Safest to remove spring first

I usually make myself a sort of hook with a big handle to grab the spring and remove it.
Much safer than prying with a screwdriver.
Is your stand still rotating on the through shaft ?
All of my 750's have been seized in with rust and the shaft has been turning in the frame.

The stand on my K1 had seized on the shaft and wore away  the clamps on the frame, I had some blocks made and fitted them to te frame as the clamps were too far gone.
You could try and insert pennies (or similar) into the spring coils when the bike is on the stand and the spring is open and then remove the stand.

I'll be welding a 6mm nut to my stand to accommodate a grease nipple.
And also I'll weld a plate on the end of the shaft for an extra locating bolt, so it can't possibly start to rotate

All,

Thanks very much for the replies.

I will remove the spring first. It is looking rusty and dirty but will probably clean up ok. I'm not sure if the shaft is rotating in the frame but I will clean it up and grease it well on re-assembly.

I couldn't get the paddock stand in place as the exhaust silencer is in the way. I removed the two nuts and bolts holding it to the frame. One of the clamp bolts came out and the other is somehow an anti theft shear bolt with nothing to get a spanner or socket on. I thought I would loosen it by turning the threaded end with mole grips only to find my four sets of various mole grips have disappeared!  >:(

I then used my Dremel type Black & Decker multi tool to grind the head off the shear bolt. All was going well, then there was a loud pop from the tool and the garage lights went out. The garage supply breaker in the house had tripped and the tool is now no more. I will buy another one and complete the job at the weekend.

There is lots more to do on the bike so I will, no doubt, be after more adviice in the future.

Kind regards,

Mike.
