CB750 K6 fuel tap repair kit
« on: March 23, 2026, 12:03:42 PM »
Hello All
The fuel tap on my K6 leaks externally when in the reserve position. I've searched hard but can only find repair kits for earlier K model fuel taps, nothing for the LHS single fuel line K6 tap.
I know I can buy a replacement tap both original and pattern but I would prefer to keep and repair my existing one.
Can anyone help with a recommended source for this.

Thanks
Rich

You’re not the first Rich! Not available that we know of. Apart from the filter seal and top nut that attaches to tank which is available in a kit there are no repair kits AFAIK.

My experience with fuel tap repair kits is that they don't fit properly and don't work.
Many years ago I bought a repair kit for the dreaded Suzuki GT750 Vacuum Fuel Tap.
It needed more vacuum than the manifold delivered, at least at large throttle openings.
Loads of fun sorting that one out, ended up with a NOS genuine tap instead.
Buy cheap buy twice  ?

Halo everyone.
I hade mine K6 fuel tap apart last week. The critical part in this is the small plastic cone with hole that can get scratched on its surface and leek. This must be a typical piece to be made by a decent good 3D-printer. Careful measurement and CAD drawing should give us access to spare parts for this one too. I am not at all knowledgeable in this technology but have seen amazing 3D prints.
Just a thought.

I've bought a new tap, when i fit it I'll investigate possibilities for the repairing the old one but now the nice weather is here i didn't want to be stuck with a failing, leaky tap.

I'm sure that you're right. The plastic or nylon cone could be printed in the right, petrol-proof material, or cast/machined. A good project for someone with the skills and access to machinery.

I might be wrong, (has been known) but someone on here has already tried a repair by making the small plastic cone shaped bit with limited success. Maybe depends on how good the 3d printer is perhaps. Sorry can’t remember who it was.interested to see if someone had success in this area. Could certainly sell them.😜

I seem to recall that internally the K6 fuel tap is very similar to that used on the 400/4 - ie a plastic cone shaped bit which can indeed wear and therefore not fully shut off the fuel supply to the carbs when tap is in the off position.
IF the tap is leaking to the outside world, as happened with one of my 400/4's, that can be cured by replacing the o-ring between the plastic cone and outer plate. Wish I could remember the o ring size, but way back when I did not tend to make a note of such things. That particular 400/4 tap is still in use more than 20 years after changing the o-ring, and still with no external fuel leak; it does however not shut off fully, allowing a VERY slow feed of fuel into the float bowls - barely a thimble full over a 4 month lay up this past winter.

You would be better off buying a new one off David Silvers as that’s what I did with my K1 or try Julie on here she has a lot of Honda parts or try the bike jumbles like Kempton Park as there used to be a lot of jap parts there
