Finally made the decision to move on the 400 I part restored some time ago and thought I’d try the forum first to see if anyone is interested in a project.
Bought some years ago as a basket case from a guy who’d started work on the bike, powder coating the frame and some other parts and stripping the engine, before giving up and piling it all up in the garage.
My plan was to quickly assemble the puzzle to figure out condition and what was needed then I’d take it all apart again with a view to a proper, full restoration.
Didn’t go to plan as I spent far too long and much too much money getting it together, buying parts and getting it running.
I never really fell in love with the 400 however and have other projects I want to get on with so need to shift the bike and pile of parts I collected for it.
Photos show the current state – pretty much fully assembled with the exception of front brake and essentially it’s ready for taking apart and doing properly with pretty much everything there or in the pile of bits with the bike.
Original red tank and side panels were in poor state but found a really good original tank and there are also spare blue panels and a set of new remanufactured panels.
Spares include new DSS seat, new shocks (from Legend motorcycles In think), universal silencer (fitted briefly then replaced with DSS pattern silencer), DSS brake pedal, lifting handle, steering lock and various fixings and parts.
Spare engine cases and some internals as photo – condition unknown and no history or V5 on the cases but maybe some use.
There’s also a set of new piston rings and the set of original std pistons and liners – the originals were replaced with a set of low mileage oversized rings and liners
If anyone is interested in the project I’m happy to get any more details or photos etc. and run through more detail on the bike, condition and parts etc.
I was hoping value might be somewhere around the £2,000 mark but no real idea.
Otherwise I guess it’s the dreaded eBay and inevitable deluge of daft questions and offers.
