--- Quote from: McCabe-Thiele (Ted) on September 20, 2026, 11:25:16 AM ---When torqued up I can't get the split pin hole anywhere near.
I guess a thinner spit pin is the answer as I don't want to overtighten it and strip the thread.
I can see me replacing the special washer and nut, thats another £25.00 for DS.

You'd have to be lucky to see the nut line up correctly to fit the split pin each time you torque it.
I usually pull it up a bit further or slacken it a touch until the split pin fits.
Or if you prefer it correctly torqued every time then you could dump the split pin and fit a re-useable lock nut, same as new Honda's have fitted and similar to what's listed below:-

Good luck

That's intesting Skoti - Hammerhead is a new one to me.
Skoti:
Just edited my above post to include a link for a genuine Honda lock nut.
But here it is again:-

McCabe-Thiele (Ted):
Item not listed to fit the CB400NA presumably as it was not the original part.
It might fit, no flange o/d shown.
Bryanj:
I think they used to be called philidas nuts or something like that
