I think the seat on that Cafe Racer looks just a bit too hard for me!  Is it actually legal to legal not to have mudguards in Britain by the way? Just wondering.

Without looking up the regulation, yes any mechanically propelled vehicle should have mudguards or similar functioning bodywork reduce spray from rain,/water suppression.

When i was mot ing i would not have passed a bike with no mudguards but rules change so not sur now

I don't have a rear mudguard on Millie, she passes her MOT every year. Mudguards may come under C&U.

Is there a reason for that Julie? I've had blue lights behind me twice and when I spoke to them they tell me my last MOT was in 2019, I had to explain!  Then they come out and have a look around the bike, half the time I wonder if that's why they really stopped me.

I just like collecting bits of paper George. Also, it keeps a record of the mileage etc for any owners in the future. It only cost us £20 per bike for an MOT including free coffee. Graham maintains all our bikes to an exceptionally high standard, it's always good for someone else to keep an eye on the essentials.

A lot of Coppers are bikers or petrol heads.
When I worked foot patrol in Derby I used to stop an unusual sports car that had Irish Plates.
It would head up Ashbourne Road towards Mackworth most Saturday nights in the early hours.
It was an unbadged prototype DeLorian with a 6 cylinder Renault engine iirc.
The driver showed us under the bonnet etc, he told us it looked fast but wasn't.
He did tell us it was difficult to keep clean as the SS bodywork on the prototype was a sort of brushed unsealed finish that rain spotted badly.

I've heard about that brushed metal on at least some parts of the bodywork of DeLorians, but the issue raised was it was near impossible to deal with any scratches et al it picked up. Did he have long white hair, did he ever discuss the future?

It does say in the regs somewhere that you must keep the vehicle maintained in a safe condition and an mot is an easy way of proving that

Ooooh! The trouble with those is (apply nasal overtones here) you can't get the Flux Capacitors for them    once they go you've had it with these time shifting machines

Can't think why police in the UK would stop you regarding MOT.  When the police "run" the plate it should show them that the bike is legal as is...as long as the tax info is current.  Unless, of course, the officer(s) are ignorant of the fact that an MOT is not required for vehicles of that age.

Re that...I have never understood why a recent model vehicle needs an MOT but a 40 year old doesn't.  I would think the old one is more likely unsafe.  FURTHER re MOT...a couple of years ago I took my '19 Kawasaki Z900RS Cafe (now sold) in for an MOT.  The battery was weak and literally all the warning lights were flashing when I got to the shop.  I figured I might as well just ride back home but the tech said, "none of that matters for a motorcycle MOT."  So it passed with every warning light on the dash flashing!

The "theory" is that a "historic" vehicle will be owned by an enthusiast who will baby the vehicle doing extra maintainence and probably do a reduced mileage going to shows etc
