550 Seat Refurb
« on: October 27, 2026, 01:57:43 PM »
I'm sorry to bring this up as I know it has been well covered in previous threads, but i have a problem:

The seat for my 550 F2 project needs a serious refurb - the base is very rough, the foam is tired and the cover is knackered. I do have a spare base - it's very sound but has had a piece cut off one end for some reason.

I've just spoken to Phil Turner at P & K Classic Bikes, following advice on here. He tells me he no longer has any bits for a 550 seat, and that the bloke that made the new foam and new covers is now dead. On top of that, he couldn't suggest anyone who might be able to help.

Any seats for sale on the internet are no better that what I already have. Short of going for one of those dodgy-sounding replicas from Vietnam, does anyone have any suggestions?

Getting a decent cover for an F2 isn’t that hard, neither is finding new foam. It’s the base pan that’s the problem, most are corroded and holed. If you can find a decent pan buy it. I spotted one complete with the tool compartment, which is rare as hell. I think I informed some members I knew had an F2 but whether anyone bought it I don’t know. I do know a mate with a seat with a decent base but ripped cover but whether he will sell it I don’t know.

I’ll keep my eyes out for one for you. Btw, the 550k3 seat is totally different, don’t buy one of those.

I can’t comment on the Honda 550 seats from Vietnam (yet), although I’ll probably be buying a ‘non-standard looking’ version for my CB550 build next year.

However, I did buy a Vietnam one for my Suzuki GT500 build a couple of years ago and had no issues with the quality or customer service. I wanted a particular type with diamond stitching and when I asked if I could have it with gold rather than the std white, done, no problem.

Dispatch / delivery wasn’t super fast but obviously I’d asked for something non stock.

If you are doing 10,000 miles a year, maybe the wrong option. I’ve done 400 in two summer seasons and it’s more than adequate.

The company is called Texavina

I replaced mine (1978 CB550 F2) with one from Vietnam; the website is US based but they get the seats made and shipped from Vietnam, postage costs were quite high. Fortunately, I was going to Vietnam on holiday, so I arranged with them to have it delivered to my last hotel before flying back. I stuck it in my luggage no problem.  Quality and fit seem fine, i will add the chrome edging and logo when I get time.

I still have the original, and it's serviceable, but not to the standard I wanted. The cover is a replacement, and the foam is fine. The base has had some epoxy resin added down one side to strengthen it. i'd be interested in selling it, maybe you could make one good one out of two?
