How many lips ??
« on: October 27, 2026, 07:29:38 PM »
I need to replace the Rev Counter drive oil seal on my 400NA Superdream.
It's a 4.8x14.5x4 mm seal, looks to be cheapest on ebay supplier is Lancashire Seals, they list two a single lip or a double lip at the same price delivered £4.20.

Is there any befefit in using a double lipped seal, the old one looks to be single?

This is a neat 500 restoration in the USA.

Secondary lip is useful if in a dusty / dirty environment. It keeps the shaft wiped clean and allows the primary lip to concentrate on its job of keeping the oil, liquid, compressed air etc inside the cylinder or gearbox.

For the extra pennies its costs on small seals, it’s not a backwards step in my view
