750 F1 petrol tank problem
« on: July 18, 2011, 09:48:31 PM »
my 78 f1 petrol tap is strange. the outlet for the fuel pipe comes out horizontally (sideways) this means that my fuel pipe is a nightmare to route.
WHY NOT GET THE CORRECT ONE THEN i hear someone say !
well i have 2 others which point downwards (the correct type as one is still on another 750 f1 tank) but the thread on my petrol tank is too small for them.
anyone got a solution ?

apart from that, i still hate honda 4 cylinder carbs! (well, i will until i finally sort mine out.)
ps anyone live in the worthing / horsham area ?

The CB750F1 petrol tap outlet is vertical (points down), the CB750F2 tap outlet is horizontal, the tanks are identical apart from the spigot for the petrol tap which is a diferent diameter.
I found this out when the original tank on my F1 leaked and I replaced it with an F2 tank, I then had to source an F2 petrol tap (stopcock).
Here are the two together the F1 tap is at the top

If its a 78 it can't be an F1 UNLESS it was in storage in a crate for 2 years+

My F2 is on an S plate, if yours has Comstar wheels, a black engine, double discs on the front it will be an F2, and my A65 is an A65R that I bought when I was 17 (quite a while ago !).
Here's the F2 page at CMSNL http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb750f2-supersport-england_model14689/partslist/

Like I said, they wern't popular and quite a few stood in crates for 2-3 years before being registered. Still don't make it a 78, just a late reg 76
