CB500 leaky oil pump

I am getting annoying oil drips from the oil pump housing,

 I have replaced the main pump to crankcase joint "O" ring,also the smaller 2 "O" rings on the studs,

but I am unable to unscrew the 3 phillips headed end plate screws,and this is the one thats leaking,I believe,


  my local bike shop also can't remove them,

any ideas?

Only time I saw a leak it was the oil pressure switch, and trying to tweak it up a bit tighter caused a drip to become a gushing leak. I geuss you could try drilling the 3 phillips head screws out and replacing them with new, I seem to recall they are countersunk type - I find these tend to bind up solid far more than other bolts and often need the heads drilling off at which point they normally wind out with mole grips.

I agree with Matthew, drilling the heads off and the remainder of the screw normally winds out easily. Personally I wouldn't risk using an impact driver on an oil pump, too much risk of damaging part of it!

Ive used impact driver lots on these screws but if the top is chewed up drill the heads off carefully, I would start with a 4mm drill in the centre to try and get the heads off then with the cover removed you should be able to get the remainder out with molegrips.

The cover O ring is not listed but the size is listed on here and a Gold Wing part is the correct size, or at least it worked on the ones i did. From memory the part number is 91305-216-000 46 x 2 91305-426-003 gets the same size

  Impact driver tried,impact wrench tried,

 still as tight as .........  whatever

the heads are hardly marked,just VERY tight,

 what about running the moter to get the oil hot ?

 would that help free the screws ?



 if I do try again,and damage the pump,does any one have a spare for sale ??

 not tried that HOT !!!

  just a warm engine hot !!

I guess I need to run the motor to get it hot,then apply a blow torch on the screw heads ?

If it really goes tits up I can probably find you a casing but don't just tap the impact screwdriver hit the bit into the screw first(fairly hard) to make it a tight fit then attach the impact driver and HIT it 'kin ard

Best check if it is same part as cb550, either way if it goes badly wrong I am sure I have a spare I could sell.

 just checked CMSNL  ,

  they list part 15100323003 then superseded by 15100390000

 this later part fits CB550K3  england

Either way I am sure to have one, but had better be careful about what I pick out, given I have both types of engine.

Only different one is 650

Try tightening them, then loosening them.  Sounds daft but it's worked plenty of times for me.
