CB350/400 / Starter button no go.
« on: January 03, 2026, 12:17:23 AM »
Electrics, my favorite topic  ::) Pressing my starter button is doing nothing, sometimes when this has happened I've hit the button with the kill switch on, turned it back and hey presto...voom voom. Alas, this past week nothing happens whatever I do. Kick start works fine and battery plus all other electrics just fine. I'm not sure if I should tinker with the switch gear or find out (how?) if the starter solenoid is up the creek.  :o  Any suggestions?  8)

Misc / Open / Strange spark plug test result
« on: October 04, 2025, 12:06:09 PM »
I'm not firing on my CB400Fs #2 piston. A look at the plug showed a fairy sooty result that was dry, the plug is new. I did the crude test of placing the plug on the cooling fins and hitting the go button to check for a spark. There was a spark but it came off the top of the electriod, not within the gap itself. Any ideas?

Misc / Open / Ding Dong Diesel.
« on: September 17, 2025, 12:24:36 PM »
Hopefully I'll get my bike back tonight or tomorrow. She certainly needed the rebore and new pistons that's been done ( Thanks Bryan) but I now know why I had run into sudden and smokey trouble in the first place.... I'd just finished topping up with diesel, by mistake of course. A senior moment to see the bluddy least.  ::)
The mechanic noticed a fuel spill hadn't evaporated and looked closer, discovering why things weren't going well after all should have been fixed by now.
Is there a special  prize or title on this site for these things?  ;D

Misc / Open / Cyclinder rebore services in greater London?
« on: August 13, 2025, 03:40:08 PM »
The workshop just got back to me to tell me I will need a rebore or a different cyclinder block, unless someone here has a CB400F2 cyclinder block for sale the only one I can on the web find is aweful.
Can anyone reccommend a place to get that done in Greater London. The quote I got from the one firm discovered so far is £140.00 plus vat for a first rebore.
However, how can I be sure it is a first rebore, is there a way of telling from pistons or something?

CB350/400 / Where is the valve guide?
« on: August 12, 2025, 12:58:00 PM »
I took a very smokey and rattley Elen into the workshop today. Best case scenerio needs a new valve guide (Brazilian english?) worse a holed piston or something. We shall see when the lid comes off. But I couldn't find a valve guide in the CMSL plan here..... can anyone help?

CB350/400 / Cobbles and calipers
« on: August 11, 2025, 07:30:54 PM »
I often ride on cobbled streets through having a GF in darkest Wapping. A few days ago I noticed the rattle from up front was more profound than ever and after sniffing about a bit I discover the plastic disc cover that sits behind the front brake calipers was loose, so I finger tightened until I got home and then fitted the shiny new stud & nut waiting for it anyway. Next trip on cobbles, ( & potholes ) was quieter but still rattley as ever, it appears to be the brake calipers as I seem to have eliminated everything else. Is this normal or am I missing something?

CB350/400 / A missing part discovered again
« on: August 06, 2025, 08:19:05 PM »
Thanks to a post on CB400F Facebook group I've discovered another missing part on my bike.  :o  a spring at the pedal end of the rear brake rig, see pic. It is part number 46514377000
I've not noticed this in the seven years I've had the bike, nor have the numerous mechanics who have worked on her either. It begs the question, do I really need it? Your thoughts?

Misc / Open / What am I missing?
« on: August 01, 2025, 01:18:44 PM »
I keeping meaning to find out! On my bike there is a strip of black metal holding info that is missing from the frame, see picture. I wondered if it was under the paint now but seemingly not. I've yet to find out for sure what it is but is it something I'm legally required to have. I hope this is isn't the daftest question!  ;D
