Just to horify everybody Citroens solution to squealing front brakes was to dip your finger into coppaslip grease and put 3 to 4 finger stripes on each side of both front discs.
Sacre Bleu!  :o  'Squeal stops, brakes don't!'  ;D

For squealing, the old trick is to bevel the leading edge of the pad.
Already done mate!  ;)

When the old ladies drop their shopping bags at the bus stop it's time to clean them up.

In 1982 riding past the Leather Lane Market in EC2 London with brake squeal I had an orange thrown at me!  ;D

When I do it I put the feelers gauge in and then squeeze the fixed pad and arm against the disc  by hand and then tighten down the screw until the feeler guage is stuck fast then back off the screw quarter turn.

Regards
Dave
Right, part of tomorrows do list!  ;D

Need a  tougher spring or the moving pad is a bit sticky.
But where to get this spring, I've trolled the earth to no avail.  ::) That said, after my brake caliper was siezed and I found a friendly non bike mechanic from east of europe who heat treated it and got me back on the road my brakes have come  a long way, whole system renewed or restored basically. Even now I'm waiting for a trio of nuts and bolts to arrive from DSS. I am quite happy with the action of the spring, I've had a good look at things, but not had anything to compare it with either.  :(

Is it just me, or is it everyone? When I service my brakes, in this case painting the fixed pad housing and polishing oop the caliper and surrounding bits.
I'll finish by setting the clearence between fixed brake pad and disc, but I can never get it so that the caliper adjustment bolts head fills the counter sunk hole, I have replaced it with the new bolt you see here to no avail. Is this actually normal?
See image, this is how it is set now.

You may already know this George but Tower Bridge has (or had) a mortuary. Apparently anyone who jumped into the Thames would get carried out and back in again with the tides. There's a quirk about  the river at Tower Bridge that bodies eventually end up there hence the need for a mortuary. I don't know if it's an urban myth but I've heard that story told on a number of occasions.
I know about it, true!  :) It's called Dead man's hole they don't use it anymore though. For reasons known to Father Thames bodies tended to gravitate towards the pool of London anyway so Tower Bridge as a working place with engine rooms et al came in handy.  ;)

I got caught up in this last night. I was riding home after roaming south of the river for ridings sake when on the south side of Tower Bridge I had to stop because the Tower Bridge got raised to let a tall barge through, being on a motorbike I was able to drive right up to the road barrier and dismount. Then the bridge started to lower again when some young man shouting in a foreign language climbed over the railings and started running to the middle of the bridge as it came down. I thought it was a social media stunt, but then he sat on the rail of the bridge that had stopped lowering just before the two sides met. He was waving an orange bag about and I wondered in 'Just Stop Oil' were up to their tricks again, then someone said he sounded like a Palestinian. Well, he didn't explode so I don't think so.  :o  But it caused utter chaos whatever his issue.  >:( I gave up waiting after about an hour and went home via the Rothehithe tunnel instead, at least I could do that this time. In the 1990s I was working on a river boat and walking home over the Tower Bridge was my only option. A 'jumper' who we had seen from the boat earlier when sailing under the bridge was still there and I had to wait hours before they managed to talk him down and let everyone proceed. These people are most inconvenient!  ::)

OK, lets give your action packed video a bump!  ;) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrGVaO3ogaE

The only problem is that it's so short!  :o  I'll do this for you anytime, it's easy when you know how and have the software handy. Gmail allows a max of 25 mg per email but you can still send bigger ...  If you need to send a larger file, Gmail will automatically upload it to Google Drive and provide a download link in the email instead of attaching it directly,
Or you can send it in a few emails if you divided the footage, I'll just string them together in movie-maker and upload to youtube.  :)

I only went about three or four miles, but it scared the life out of me, after a 50cc moped, it seemed like a rocket ship!

I hear you! I started biking in 1981 in Germany, I had bought a 15mph moped (called a Mofa in Germany) for commuting, a Hercules Prima Presto ( see pic, try not to laugh! ;D )enough though for the bug to bite! So I went for a full  licence. Things are done differently in Germany, very differently. You don't swan around on your own with L plates. You are under instruction usually following a car with Fahrschule plates, that means driving school, this is after some time on the playground  and classroom, my instructer was an impatient bavarian who was fond of his loud voice. ( I'll try not to mention the war!  ;D )The bike supplied by the school was a BMW R65, it felt like getting on a horse. After about five hours on the roads, it was time for the Autobahn  :o Speeds of 80-90 mph (145 km) ....I felt ill, especially when overtaking big trucks!  :o
After two weeks, time for the driving test, I flunked because I failed to look over my shoulder a few times on the playground test. I took another test a week later and passed. Three weeks after deciding to go for it I had a full bike licence, they don't waste much time!

Glad to hear that Mike.  :)

Thanks Dave, no sign of  indentations so far, could they have worn out over time? There has absolutley never been any blueing of these pipes. Happily there hasn't been any on the new set either, I've had them really hot too.
