I gave up because it simply went rusty again. I got a new tank and fittings from David Silvers. I had trouble fitting it at first and they tried it out for themselves and found out that it was a bit narrower at the fitting arches. I and anyone else had to reduce the size of the mounting rubbers so it would slide on.

Wow- £1054 for how many bikes?
One. No garage even though I have something that could be better. I live in the insurance worlds 'Bermuda Triangle'  ::)

MCE is who I'm with. The stumbling block seems to be not having a garage...but look how many garages get broken into around here!

I'm hoping when I go to get a quote from Footman James I'll get better than the £1054 pa I'm paying for tpft now. alas, someone just mentioned Garage, I'm not able to say i have one. But an out the way garage is probably more vulnerable around here than my being in a gated community, there are two enty phones to pass, it's under a ceiling, with a cover over it...in a courtyard with almost 30 nosey neighbours who know who owns the bike. When I go out for a late night jaunt I see people coming to their windows ...a thief wouldn't stand a chance of going un-noticed but alas, that didn't count on my last quote. Only three companies on 'Go compare' would have me at all. I live in Shadwell east London.

at that price someone is taking the piss.  i went to gocomp and said i lived in e12qj with a £3500 bike in a secured parking area (you said locked gates access) with no ncb and only 1 year riding and mce came back at 188 with 50 excess, devitt 442 with another 6 under 500!! i then said no to anything that could give a discount and much to my surprise mce went down to 166??.

of course this is only representative on the day as the quotes don't last more than a few days but it gives an indication.

you need to think about a change at renewal
Well...it was the cheapest of the three companies on go compare that would have me at all. The AA wouldn't touch me. I've worked in the insurance industy albiet in Life Assurance but i do know I'm in a part of London known to insurers s 'The Bermuda Triangle'....because so much goes missing!!

......it's so they can screw one last year of road tax out of us. ;) Imagine if they tried to celebrate the new millenium on 1st January 2001?

£68 is small-beans  for the 400/4 
LOL! Not if you've been nearly bankrupted this past year getting one up to her standard now.  ;D ...and I've got my expensive sister coming over from Germany visiting for a week!

On or after April 1st this year, ie, 3 weeks, you will be able to do it at the post office Pat. It's not officially entitled to free tax until then. I will be doing my Sept 78 reg then as well.
Me too! At this rate they won't find the funds to fix Her Majesty's Potholes!

Sounds like a bodge, for those without the means just now to do the whole job, can a new camchain be threaded through by splitting and joining links?

Thanks for the images Julie that explains it, my silencer does not have the same fittings. I'm going to have to invent something.

Cushion arrived in the post today and i went straight downstairs to fit it, alas no joy. I fitted the rubber T stud on the back of the cushion into the groove on the silencer that also holds the bolt that secures the silencer to a brace between it and the frame. As I really expected the stand simply kicked it straight off again. The grooves on the cushion face side on too, I doubt they are meant to do that, face on would be more like it. Is there supposed to be a seperate brack to carry this cushion that I'm missing?

OK..so with engine ticking over...I slacken that, then slacken the camchain adjuster...tighten the former again and tighten camchain adjuster?
