CB500/550 / Cb550f blowing main fuse
« on: August 10, 2026, 10:15:26 AM »
Hi,

I’ve finally got my 550 on the road and riding for the first time with me just in time to catch the last of summer - (since I think 1999). A lot of titivation changing and rebuilding carbs, fork seals, tubes tyres, electronic ignition, servicing and lots of cleaning up.

I am sussing out some teething issues since taking it on short journeys where I live to try and make it reliable. It has broken down on me a few times but nothing a little roadside fix and cleaning up and improving electronic connectors didn’t solve.

However my latest breakdown blew the 15a main fuse losing all electrics to the bike, luckily a spare was there which allowed me to get home - something to note is I rode the bike for about 5-10 mins with the headlights on for the first time when the fuse blew. With this in mind I rode home using only the pilot lamp which seemed to be fine, around 2 mins from my house I switched my headlight back on which lasted the 2 mins home blowing the main fuse again right outside my house. The headlight thing could be a coincidence but they do also seem abit dim even though the bike charges.

Has anyone had the main fuse blow?

My plan is to replace the fuse box for a newer blade type anyway checking for any bad connections along the way.

Thanks for any help

CB500/550 / 069a carb set up advice
« on: July 26, 2026, 05:29:39 PM »
Hi again,

Just a quick one. So I’ve recently rebuilt a set of 069a carbs following the video that classic octane posted. All is well and the bike runs nice and smooth, I bench synced the carbs using a drill bit to level each slide to each other.

However I was wondering on the idle adjustment when this was being done. I adjusted this with the idle screw backed right off. Nothing was mentioned in the video about this but now when starting the bike it idles from cold after choke is turned off at around 1200 rpm but doesn’t go any lower once the idle screw is backed right off.  As the slides have been set to the size of the drill bit I used with the idle screw backed out.

Was I supposed to keep a small amount of adjustment left on the idle screw to allow for adjustment in lowering the idle - is the bike meant to shut off with the idle screw backed out the full way, ie closing the slides.

Thanks for any advice.

CB500/550 / Cb550 front wheel
« on: July 07, 2026, 12:01:40 PM »
I’m putting my front wheel back together after fitting new bearings but I think the brake disc bolts have been put on incorrectly.
I have fitted these nuts as they work with the lock washers (already fitted). However I have looked at pics online which looks like the original nuts don’t use lock washers. Before I had the original nuts which I plan to reuse. Am I correct in thinking no lock washers are meant to be used? The originally nuts have like a flat bottom which wouldn’t allow a lock washer to be bent over to lock. Can anyone help?

CB500/550 / Wheel bearings
« on: May 28, 2026, 09:29:06 AM »
Hi,

Does anyone know where to source a wheel bearing kit for the front and rear including all the seals of decent quality? I’m struggling to find a kit with everything in it.

Also are there any differences between the 550f and 550k?

Thanks for any help

Where's My Old Bike? / TRH 615R CB550f2
« on: May 03, 2026, 10:39:35 AM »
This is my dad’s old bike. He inspired me to buy the one I have today.

Details are as follows:

Honda cb550f2 1977
TRH 615R

“ I sold it when it was around 18 or more years old thinking it was old and out of date.

It was 8 years old when I bought it when I was somewhere around 21/22 I think.”

It would be really cool to know what happened to it.

New Member Introductions / Ignition upgrade question
« on: April 29, 2026, 08:24:50 AM »
I’ve noticed you can get a Dyna S ignition plate to replace the points as an upgrade to improve starting and smooth running.

I’ve also found a unit on David Silver spares. ADACA300505P this is the part number, it says this is a good quality Japanese part and sounds tempting at a good price. No extra parts needed.

Has anyone got any experience with either and can let me know if they’re worth getting?

My bike is completely standard at the moment running points. Cb550F 1976

Thank you

New Member Introductions / Keihin 069A carburettor question
« on: April 13, 2026, 07:54:33 PM »
Hi all,

I recently got a set of Keihin 069A carburettors in rough shape and plan to clean them up an run them with pod filters on my 1976 cb550f bitser.

I’ve had a look at all the vital rebuild parts and they all seem like they should clean up and be functional
except for the small cap that is missing in the photos. Please see attached.

My question is, does anyone know where I can find a replacement cap, plug or whatever its name is. And if left like this would this cause an air leak?

These are located on the end of the shaft that operates the slide at the top of the carb.

Thanks for any advice

James

Hi, I’m James from Hull East Yorkshire.

I’ve just took delivery of my 1976 Honda CB550F. My dad used to own one and I love the way they look.

I’ve got a few jobs to do on the bike and a few bits I need to work out - I’m currently waiting for my logbook before I can get it registered as historic and insure it. (Assuming all is well)

The bike is a runner with lots of bits that need tweaking - I actually thought I’d bought a 550K but reading the frame number it turns out it’s actually a 550F with K tank and side panels. I actually really like the 550K style though. Bike is fitted with a Laser 4into1 exhaust and looks like it has the F bars with rear grab handles removed.

I’ve got a few issues with missing parts which I need to investigate and track down but I’ll take it one step at a time - I’ve had the bike running and all sounds okay at the moment.

My biggest issue is the kick start lever hitting the rear brake lever making it unusable at the moment.

Thanks for the welcome.
