I used a Dremel and some small grinding stones, went through a few. After that those little wheels I keep mentioning, used those to remove the grinding marks and slowly smooth it flat. Finally a modified buffing wheel to get the shine. The chromers did nothing, they were satisfied it was as good as it would ever get. They charged me around £5 each to chrome them. So what I lost in time I made up for in money.
I've never heard of them until now, I think this is now on my bucket list.

The best graffiti I saw on a bus. There was in the 1980s a public service ad on the back of London buses, about motorcycle safety 'It's not the bike that bleeds' it said. Someone had written on one 'A despatch rider is not afraid to die'

Anyone remember in the 1980s when London buses were carrying an advert poster of Nigel Mansell at the wheel? Well I was despatch riding at the time and the publisher Century Hutchinson sent me to Westbourne Park bus depo where the shoot was happening. I rode in and approached the caravan he had there, I saw him watching me coming. He was interested in what I had arrived on, my Suzuki RG500Gamma  was having day out due to GS450 workhorse having work done on it. He came out for a looksee and chinwag, yet it was still an assistant who signed my docket sheet.

Sorry for the apparently misleading thread title then, I thought most folk knew that legend had it that there was never a bus when you needed one, then 2 would turn up at the same time.

Classic bikes deserve classic gear to go with them. I called in to The Junk Shop on Greenwich South St in Londinium, it's full of wonderful antique junk, you can even have tea & cake in the back garden (tiny) if you are seriously 'big' forget it the alleyways through all the stuff in there will be too challenging! I called to see if there were any real vintage goggles to be found, there wasn't but there was a pair 195/60s Waddingtons Rebel motorcycle gloves, complete with that classic flare to cope with the cuffs of a leather jacket. I paid £25.oo for them, which is probably a bargain, a much worse pair are on Fleabay for £47.oo and a better pair elsewhere for £63.oo. They are stiff as rigor mortis but no cracks or splits, so Mink oil has been ordered too to soften the leather and saddle soap to finish I already have, I use it on my other things. What I ve got doubts about is how to clean the inside, the wooly lining is hard and seems to be glued (?) direct to the leather, see image 4. Anyone dealt with this one before? Ideas?

Probably. My friend had a pagan forum I was on, she questioned why two people were using the same computer, she could tell from the IP address. I see no reason why that facility can't be there.

I have noticed a lot of cut and paste description errors when it comes to items on eBay.
Same here Ted. On this occasion it was on Westway's own eBay outlet so it was down to me swooping for the cheaper listing, I should have looked closer, but as with the question, I never counted on two 10w40 mineral oils being different!

I recently ordered my oil of choice, Westway's 10w40 4T mineral oil for classic motorcycles on eBay. But this was not before I spotted something and cancelled in time the first order. I had noticed the smaller writing on the illustration that said it was merely engine oil, it turns out for the likes of stationary engines like diesel/petrol generators and plant equipment. Would I have been in much trouble if I'd to have gone on and used it?

There are some on this forum who seem to resent me posting stuff like this, they seem to think I'm sort of saying how clever am I?
Well, count me out, I'd say you're an inspiration if anything! It is much harder for me to do a lot of things I would like to do though, not having a garage because I live in a flat and my bike outside under a cover. If anything changes that way I've always promised myself a lathe et al
