While having a tidy up I've found a spring! My heart sank when I saw it as I recognised it straight away, im sure its part 18 in the below parts diagram. Now since the rebuild I've ridden my 550 a few times and not noticed gear change problems so I'm wondering if it came on a spare gear shift shaft I bought, can anyone confirm if omitting it would definitely cause shift problems?

I need to replace the leaking, possibly original shocks on my bike and while I'm at it I think I might as well do the forks. Im considering either yss ecoline or Hagon shocks, with emulators in the forks with new springs. Does anyone have any input into this idea, ie progressive springs or standard and do I need to be careful with matching front to rear spring rates?

I've not been on here much recently as been busy with work and family, strangely now the best weather is past us I feel I need to get my 550 out again. I've mentioned before that ive been suffering with what I believe is rich running and I have a question but first the set up-
Standard 069a carbs fully cleaned with the correct jets/needles and in the correct clip position.
Airbox is standard but I have used a Honda 500 air filter as I am missing all the breather hose parts, as a result ive blanked the breather hose port off.
Fuel is new, tank has been flushed and new tap and filter. The cam chain tensioner has been adjusted as has valves and timing.
Now if I really am running rich could it be because of the slight airlifted modification? I can't get smooth acceleration but instead a big flat spot until I hit 4k at which point is snatches horribly, this is the same when in neutral, I can't slowly raise the revs as it sticks at 2-2500 then races away past 4k.
Long shot but is there anyone near Herefordshire that is up for a tinkering session with coffee or beers? 🤞

I think I may have asked this previously but I can't find it, has anyone on here fitted YSS emulators or one of the other brands to their cb500 or 550? It might be a winter project if its seen as an worthwhile upgrade.

The forks on my cb550 have a fairly horrible rhythmic bounce at around 40-45 mph, my initial suspicion was the front wheel being out of balance so removed it and balanced it as I'd not bothered doing it when I rebuilt it. It was quite out so I thought I'd solved the problem, wheel back on and a ride out has shown I'm barking up the wrong tree. Has any one got any thoughts or ideas as to what may be the issue?
Forks have been fully refreshed with I believe 7.5 or 10wt fork oil and a small preloaded spacer added (tried removing spacers, no change)

Ive discovered a very slight drip from my rebuilt 550, its definitely coming from one of the lower oil passage caps which you can see in the photo. I wanted to replace the orings under them when I did the rebuild but they were seized so rather than round the cap off I left them, regretting it a bit now. Any tips on removal other that butchery and a new cap?

I'll admit it, I'm a fool! I was disassembling my 5b550 advancer when one of the retaining e-clips shot off across my garage. No amount of magnet searching has found it yet so im asking you kind folk if you know what size I need to buy and if they are different to off the shelf clips? Measuring suggests 4mm.
If based on rebate diameter I think its 3mm.

Here's one for the experts, are cb550 advance springs the same part as cb750 from an advance stamped 333? I believe they both have 9 coils so that seems to match as mine have been trimmed to 8, and one at 7 coils which means my advance isn't gradually but snaps in rapidly, revs jumping past 3k straight to 4k. The mechanism has been cleaned and lubricated.

Im beginning to question the strength of the spark I'm getting, its very thin rather than fat, coils all test ok and new leads and resistor caps, full battery, other than connections what could cause this?

Can anyone tell me for certain the standard shock length on a cb550f, mine seem to be standard and 335 centre to centre with the wheels on the ground.

I'm looking for some cheap indoor covers for my bikes, ebay has loads but they all look rather scratch material. Does anyone have any recommendations for decent yet not bank breaking covers?
