The discussion on engine posters reminded me of a unique poster I used to own of an Opel Aero GT that never made it into production. It was a press release type poster of a the Aero version with a sectional view of the body & engine IIRC.
It differed from the Opel GT model as it was more like the Lotus Europa at the rear end.
Sadly after my divorce in 1978 the poster was lost.

The Opel GT car made by Opel in LHD only, they had to be collected from Harwich in person by the retailing dealership. I was lucky enough to pick two up from the port and drive them back to Derby. They had popup headlamps that rotated by means of a manual lever that looked like a handbrake! They did not flip up and down like a Lotus but rotated sideways on a vertical pivot. www.carandclassic.com/la/C1903296

They were imported into the UK mainly for US personnel, at bases as well as to employees of General Motors Companies of old like Fridgidare, RR & Associates in Derby etc that built reactors for submarines. Very few were bought by private UK buyers due to it being LHD.

It would have looked good on my garage wall today.https://flic.kr/p/nY8n6w

My BiL has given me a load of old motorcycle magazines.

I've been reading about Granite City Breakers, aka Breaking Points, wondered if they are still trading.

The problem turned out to be the secondary drive gear bolt; a quick visit to my friendly mechanic with the engine solved that.

The good news: I found the problem!

The bad news; well not really bad, but definitely ANNOYING!

Happy it is something so simple; mad that it was something so simple!

Now the quest to find a replacement. Anyone?

You mention  a secondary drive gear bolt, is that as well as the neutral switch.
If it was just the neutral switch that is extra annoying as that can be replaced without splitting the engine case.

Reminds me of the "Lindwurm" in my home Town of Klagenfurt.
I lived in the then Army  sequestered flats above the shops where the famous statue could be seen from our veranda.

Is there not a generic setting for a M6 bolt into aluminium in the manual somewhere that you can use?

Just a bit of an update from our house.

Wendy's speech has improved no end since she came home on the 15th August 2025.
Her Aphasia still causes problems when trying to tell me something, social speech is now really good
Still no use on her right arm, her right leg shows some improvement in the upper joints. NHS physio has ended, now on a long waiting list for Community based hospital Physio. We are in the process of filling the gap with a private Neuro Physiotherapist.

I have now recovered from my Decompensated Heart Failure having been given some extra  drugs. I saw the main Cardiology Team yesterday, they tested out how I felt about a Pacemaker in 10 months time as the next phase of treatment. I feel as well as I did this time last year.

I'm planning to carry on with Superdream build in the spring.

In 1973 I was working for an Audi/NSU dealership several years before the VW retailers merged.
The first  NSU RO80 cars. Had a twin headlamp front end with a four plug  rotor engine. The gearbox was a two pedal manual with a micro switch in the gear knob that operated the clutch.
Plug fouling and exceeding the revs would destroy the engine.

The later model had a more modern  rectangular Headlamp. The engine was quite different being a two plug unit so only one plug per rotor. It also had a catalytic converter plus an electronic rev limiter. This later model was a huge improvement. Sadly the warranty costs on the early model was bankrupting NSU who were bought out by Audi who killed off the short lived later model.

They were great to drive, very quiet,  very smooth engine once you mastered the gear shift, fuel economy was in the low 20 mpg region.

Obviously I've seen Police Rotary engined Nortons, a bike famously  raced by  local lad Ron Haslam.

Never knew Suzuki built one until I read on old issue may 2003 of m/cycle Mechanics. The main gripe was it's poor fuel consumption.

I've never seen one, has anyone here ridden or owned one?

Hi Dave,

Have you considered waterless coolant as an option ?

When I have been out on my 400 I turn off the fuel tap a short distance from home, by the time its on my driveway its starting to splutter a bit so I keep the revs up until the engine runs out of fuel, this drains the bulk of the fuel out of the bowl.

In my relatively short experience with my 400  I find that on turning the petrol tap back on it sometimes floods as the float valve has stuck open. I have found that just rocking the handle bars from left to right when off the stand immeditely stops any flooding.

If I am planning to ride out several days in the same week I just switch off as normal leaving the bowl full of petrol. It does not flood in this situation.
