Project Board / Re: Oil Pressure Gauge
« on: Today at 01:55:56 PM »
Another way they used to tap into the oil way was to fit an adapter to the blanking plug under the points or alternator covers. You drilled it and fitted an adapter piece and you left the oil pressure switch totally alone. Some even had the oil pressure gauge fitted instead of the blanking plug. Not ideal if you don’t have crash bars fitted.

Is there no physical difference in size? You’d imagine there would be if the internal gears are different sizes. I can’t remember seeing any identifying marks on my 500/550 speedo drives and I took them to pieces.

Well it qualifies under INF34 as it's a motorcycle. I'll have to look on the import form to see if the first registered date is shown.

Will they accept the manufacturers date plate Bryan. Gonna get round to doing the VT1100c soon.  It’s a 1985 so just over the 40 year mark.

CB350/400 / Re: 350/400 miles before rebuild

Depends on the model, depends on what you define as Major work.

30-40k approx for an internal chain, after that they can start to get clattery. Again, depends on how hard it's ridden and how often the oils changed. I've got a 500 with 263,000 miles on it and it's had just the chains replaced and rings, is that major? No rebore, no clutch, no gearbox bits. It's very tired now though.

I think Alan Millyard would have hacksawed the reservoir off the Gold Wing master cylinder and welded it back at the angle he wanted. Saying that, the man seems to have no fear of knackering stuff up permanently

Quick update,  I saw my consultant for the final scan results a couple of weeks ago and it was all clear! The cancer has gone. Thankyou NHS, they were brilliant.

Very happy for you. Great news.

Evidently the flexi-shaft fits the Von Haus. From what I've read anyway. It's not as powerful as the 3250 and the rev range isn't as good but it's cheap. The problem is what happens if or when it burns out. The Dremel gets a 2 year warranty and I can say for a fact it's very very good. No questions asked. Plus as I said they tend to return the full kit if you've bought a full kit first off. So extra tools and flex for free.

Can I just add. Ted, lovely job. If you want it even better the only thing I'd suggest is to redo the really small areas near the screw holes. You can see they are slightly rougher than the rest. It may polish out nicely but the smoother you get those areas the better the end result is.

I'd also strongly suggest getting the extension lead for the Dremel. I use the Dremel 4300 IIRC. It has a metre long extension lead which is much lighter then the main tool so lets you use it longer and being thinner it also allows you to get into areas the main tool struggles with. Seriously, once you've used one you'll never go back to using the main tool. I used to have loads of them spares but ended up giving them away, everytime I send a dremel back under warranty they'd send the entire kit again with another extension. If I can find one you can have one foc.

Dremel 4250 is the replacement for the Dremel 4300.

And the extension is called a flexi shaft.

CB500/550 / Re: I don't recognise this as a OEM CB500 seat. Do you?

Not a 500K seat. Lots of small differences if you know what to look for.

I don’t remember seeing that condition on my policy. Remember Norwich Unions rider policy, it insured you not the bike. So I presumed it was like that. So if the other bike is insured but not for others riders does that matter?

Slightly confused here.

Just insured my CB1300 from the end of June, getting ready for when I can ride again. I also have the ability to ride any other bike not owned by me. If it's not insured for instance does it matter?
