I think this is the kind of question that will get a variety of answers. I had a rebore recently, or rather my bike did,
I plain took it easy for a few hundred miles and then rode as usual.

I feel the 400/4 has brakes that suit it myself.
I had to slam on the anchors in a hurry just the other day, yet another London food delivery bike jumping the lights, they will even do that without lights at night. Perhaps I should not bother braking?

Has anyone tried this Blue Job chrome polish I've been reading about and can it really clear up the discoloration I'm starting to get on my new header pipes?

Thanks for the answers everyone.
Skoti, maybe the diode was broke or missing, the bike was a bit of a heap. Micky, I got a GF later, but the real reason I teamed up with Becky was to exploit a the called the Greater London Mobility Scheme, it was a GLC thing of the day were if there was two of you they would get you a flat quickly, we had both been living in Earls Ct bedsit land.Ted My first bike was an Ariel Arrow too, the trouble is mine was the Airfix! I should have left it in the box, they are worth a lot of money on fleabay, I just checked! ![]() Bryan You seem to have answered the question for me, ok so bad timing can cause reversing! ![]() Well, I won't be buying any DTs, if I do it will be down to DRINKING! If I want to ride in reverse I'll get myself a Ural outfit.

Many years ago when I was a dispatch rider in the 1980s I had a flat mate, a girl called Becky, also a dispatch rider. She bought herself an aging Yamaha DT175 to take the strain off her haloed CBX550, (or maybe to preserve the cam chain tensioner?
) Well, one morning she started it, went into gear to move off, and....WOW....it went backwards! After a few more reverse starts it behaved itself again. Until it had an electrical fire ( it seemed) one night that caused a fire so hot in her garage it practically melted both bikes. ![]() Ok, what on earth might have made it go backwards though? 13

Out & About / Rolling Thunder Ride 2026« on: April 03, 2026, 06:38:32 PM »
I rode all the way from east London to west London and back to central London, a staggering distance for someone of 69!
This was to take part in the Rolling Thunder Ride 2026, an ex-forces veteran's rally that is also a protest platform against the treatment of certain Northern Ireland veterans like Soldier F by the current government, I even got to meet the shadow defence secretary in Parliament square. My own regiment, the Royal Green Jackets was quiet well represented too, I met some of them at last years ride and the Ace Cafe at times.Boy did we make a lot of noise too. I got interviewed and photographed by a journalist from Reuters, so look out for me! Here's pics. ![]() 15

This was is on the BBC website this morning. Weekly quiz: Why did bananas cause a stir in Orkney?
We've got some people on the Orkneys, maybe they can tell us, has it got anything to do yellow CB400Fs?
