SOHC Singles & Twins / CD175 PW22 carb rebuild kit?
« on: May 11, 2025, 01:41:45 PM »
Could someone point me to the right place to get a rebuild kit for one of these carbs? I really only need seals etc. Been trying to source something online with no real success. Maybe there is an alternative.....

Misc / Open / Ceramic Oil Additive

Anyone tried one of these ceramic oil additives? I was wondering if it was better than MoS2 (like the old MolySlip etc)

Misc / Open / Waterproof trousers.....
« on: July 24, 2024, 12:37:52 PM »
I know the word 'waterproof' is a misnomer but I want a pair of waterproof trousers that I can put on when out and about and then suddenly caught in the rain. Thus, I do not want to remove my boots and I do not want to have a lining that catches on the tread of my boots making the whole process something like a farce.

Any suggestions?

I like the Oxford rain & storm seal range (I have the rainseal jacket) but they have mesh linings....

Recommended Sources for Parts and Services / Digital Torque wrench
« on: June 13, 2024, 12:52:43 PM »
Does anyone have any recommendation for such?
My smaller torque wrench is very difficult to read and also the scale of adjustment is impossible to judge. So my thoughts are to do digital. (3/8" or 1/2"  - not sure. )
I was pondering if the adapters that go between a ratchet and the socket may do.

CB350/400 / Spark Plugs!
« on: May 27, 2024, 02:19:01 PM »
Does someone know the equivalent Denso plug to replace NGK ones on my 400/4?

I spent hours last weekend chasing a fault only to find it was my complete set of plugs that were faulty. They worked initially on the new engine build and all was good apart from fuel leaks. This led me to believe that the ignition system was OK (How wrong I was!) Carbs sorted and installed and no firing at all. As The carbs had been off I assumed the issue was there.
Anyway, on a whim I replaced the plugs with an old set and the engine purred like a kitten.
I have yet to establish if the plugs are fake but with so many fake ones around, as I have discovered, I thought Denso ones might be an option.

Site Feedback / FAQ / How to... / Personal Messages not marked as read
« on: February 24, 2024, 06:41:13 PM »
No matter what I do, the personal messages I get and read always come up as unread and hence I get a message saying you have a new personal message.
Any clues on how to get over this?

SOHC Singles & Twins / Honda Hornet 750
« on: January 15, 2024, 10:22:15 AM »
I suppose this bike qualifies for this section as the 750 is actually a SOHC!!

Anyone got one of these and can give me their thoughts on it?

Considering a new bike in the spring and it is one on the list (together with the Triumph Tiger 660 and Triumph Speed 400)

CB350/400 / Where does this go?

Left over in the tray from when the 400 was stripped is the part below:

Anyone know where it should live? Of course the PO could have fitted it but it does look commercially made....

CB350/400 / Kick start woes....
« on: November 11, 2023, 10:51:16 AM »
I have been deliberating over this topic and before I go much further, I would appreciate some thoughts!
Engine in and various ancillaries installed. Now with the fixed starter switch, I can turn the engine over with ease.
The problem comes trying to use the kick start. With the clutch engaged and the gearbox in neutral, the kick start appears to be locked. Disengage the clutch and the kick start works (but obviously not turning the crank!) Bike is still on my bike lift.

I have had the clutch basket off a few times and can't see where the issue may be.

Any thoughts?

CB350/400 / Points advance unit
« on: November 10, 2023, 09:19:58 AM »
Should one be able to dismantle the advance/retard unit? My spare unit is really stiff and the cam section seems to be reluctant to withdraw from the plate.

CB350/400 / 400/4 alternator cables route
« on: November 02, 2023, 06:23:14 PM »
Does someone have a photo to hand of  the oil pump area (ie with the chain guard removed)? I have put the wiring for the alternator back as I thought it should be based on the wire clip in the parts book but it just doesn't look right.

SOHC Singles & Twins / New project has arrived!!
« on: October 24, 2023, 04:07:07 PM »
A single owner bike that has been off the road for almost 30 years. I need to assess it but it looks pretty good - mostly covered in oil and protective film.
Accident on loading  - a smashed side panel! Hurumph!

CB350/400 / 400/4 Caliper bolts
« on: October 21, 2023, 05:49:01 PM »
Anyone know if the 2 bolts securing the calliper to the bracket are high tensile. As the brackets/calliper are cast ally, I was wondering if high tensile was required. The existing bolts are unmarked and of course, have a smaller head but this could be overcome with a socket head.
