I repaired both side panels for my 550 that was imported from the states just to keep originality. But I should never have wasted my time as I dropped one and it shattered. Seemed to be very brittle, maybe depends what exposure it’s had. Replacements are of strong material, seem to be good. Good luck!

So the cost of replating. Someone mentioned going further afield to get some plating done, Poland in particular. Emailed a company with request for a quote from a company called Gálven Chrom for the refurbishment of kick start lever brake pedal and small brake lever (3 items) reply came back - one month turnaround and 52 euros per hour and 7 hours required to complete, plus carriage. Quick calculation tells me that’s £315 quid plus postage. So emailed Chromefix, for same work and comes in at £130 plus postage. No brainer! I have used Chromefix couple of times and am quite pleased with their work. O’ and three week turnaround. Thought I would post in case anybody else is in the same mind.

Bit of dry salt here too Gareth but lovely and dry. Don’t think I have been out this early on any of the classics this last few years. Ian good to hear from you too. I wasn’t at the auto jumble we had an events promotion gathering in the KGS was there from 11.30 till 1600. So missed the opportunity of picking up a bargain.😜 Hopefully get up your way a run soon. Good to get out for a scoot on anything 2 wheeled!😜

Despite only 9 Celsius here had a great first run out 30 miles long enough for a good warm up. In my opinion the 550 one of the best Hondas ever made. Still makes me smile and I’ve had it 39 years.

I have a parts rumbler that turned out to be not very effective for what I bought it for, but I am finding other uses for it. Great for throwing small home made brackets in to Finnish off edges also with small air tight containers and a little petrol small parts nuts bolts etc. Just switch on and leave for an hour or so.

Surely no Dave! 😳 Cant beat a bit of bodge. Quite a few wires to go in there yet, lights, indicators, horn, neutral switch wire etc, so better tidy up. Who needs plug caps!

Just an update on CWs, ended up sending the spokes back to them as they couldn’t supply spoke nipples small enough to fit the holes in my new rims, despite the fact that they are the same size holes as in the old original rims. Still awaiting return of butted spokes with appropriate nipples. And as yet still no acknowledgement for making a mistake. I would at the very least be slightly appologetic.😡

This is hilarious I had to share, but the good news is it works! Bike starts and stops and charges on the new button controls which are lying on the bench at the minute. I will of course tidy up now that I know it works.
Awaiting just a simple key switch to fit as well.

I removed all the individual spade connectors from the plastic plug and cleaned up the terminals. There’s a little barb that prevents the connectors coming out that can be manipulated with a small home made tool. Might not have to go down that road if you use the above method.😜

Still might not rule one out in the future! Although I was fancing something new as well. Probably the last thing I need at the moment, although when did ‘need’ have any bearing on our desires.😂 My mission for this year get out more on the bikes I have and continue the mongrel project.
