Great start, Ted. Out of interest, from where did you source your “ blue wheels”.The items I purchased are very poor and break down in a few minutes.

But is only running on one cylinder. I suspect the valve clearances….i’ve seen this before.🫢🫢🥲

Penny Lane. My father in law had a fish and chip shop in Penny lane back in the late 50s and 60s. He once clipped the ear of a cheeky young pup by the name of Lennon. They didn’t have a defibrillator machine.

I could tell you a little about the development of rhythm detection algorithms using Fourier series….but won’t.

NO VACUUM he says. So it ain’t getting air from the intakes. Or have I missed something? Does it actually have pistons😀😀.

“….no vacuum…”. Says it all. Timing or valve clearance. But I strongly suspect clearance.

Appreciate this is pretty basic and please don’t be offended, but are you absolutely certain that the valve adjustment has been done correctly. It’s not unusual to get this wrong and find that pressure is being lost due to partially open valves….just saying. It’s just that your statement about “not pulling a vacuum” is very telling.

Oh, and I’d be very inclined to double/ triple check the valve timing too, as a tooth out could also be an issue.

Make sure that any invoices from an independent garage quote the Registration and Vin number of the vehicle.

Ahem, yes. But it’s also old. While not guaranteed, there remains a risk that seals, orings and potentially the primary drive rubbers are shagged. It’s also difficult to ascertain its use, possible abuse and what damage has been done to a little used standing bike, assuming the mileage is genuine. Having said that it’s the basis for a viable proposition. Personally I’d be expecting to spend money, but I’m a cup half full type of person. Potentially a realist. I think it’s too dear. But again, I’m from Yorkshire.

Quite right, Ted. I replaced every bearing, seal, guide, chain, shell, ring, buffer, cable…..on my F2. Including paint, seat, chrome and the rest I’m left with a mechanically and cosmetically ‘perfect’ bike that will never be worth what I have spent.

But it was worth it for the learning, entertainment and enjoyment. Plus I know it’s ‘almost’ perfect. One day I might even ride it.😁

As good as anything. I use guitar string.

Tricks & Tips / Re: Ultrasonic Cleaning method
« on: May 13, 2026, 04:50:53 PM »
I used Allendales solution 4:1 mix at 60 deg for 15 minutes, but this didn’t touch the partially blocked pilot jets. I eventually heated the pilot jets in a gas flame and cleared the internal ash with a piano wire that slid easily through the jet.

The real problem I faced were blocked pathways in the carb bodies.Multiple attempts in the ultrasonic just didn’t do the job. In the end I used multiple cans of STP carb cleaner forced through the fuel routes directed by blocking each of the routes in turn.

I would have no qualms about hoking out a blocked jet with proprietary probes. Just don’t be aggressive and use a sensibility sized probe. The jets are made of brass, not cheese. Stubbornly blocked pilot jets can cleared by heating via a gas flame and probing with a wire to clear the ash. I know cos I’ve done it successfully.

For example, clearing a #40 jet with a #38 probe is highly unlikely to change the jet diameter by a demonstrable amount - think cross sectional area and percentage change. It’s highly unlikely the CSA change through cleaning could approach a CSA enlargement that would be equivalent to a change in jet size!
